1. What is therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress; and, to promote health and wellness.  Massage therapy is “a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client.” (AMTA)

2. How long has HHI been in business?
HHI was established in 1990 and has been under the same ownership and management since its inception. The school provides a personal, caring environment fostered by the three sisters who are practicing massage therapists. Unlike other schools owned by corporations with many diverse businesses, our only business is massage therapy education.

3. How long is the massage therapy program?
The massage therapy program at HHI is approximately six months full time or one year part time. The school is closed the last week in August, a week in December, a week for Spring Break, and all legal holidays.

4. When do massage therapy classes begin?
The classes held at HHI begin three times a year, each January, May, and September. The advanced studies for NY licensure begin in September and April. For exact details on when the next session will begin, please contact us.

5. Is there a school library for massage therapy students?
HHI has a variety of library materials available for student use, including books, professional journals, videos, and internet access via computer terminals. We also offer a wireless network for personal laptop use.

6. Is there housing available on campus for massage therapy students?
HHI is a commuter school and does not have any on-campus housing. However, the school will make an effort to assist out-of-town students in finding suitable housing for the duration of the massage therapy course.

7. How much does the entire massage therapy program cost?
Cost for the Massage Certification Program is $7458. This fee covers your costs including massage therapy textbooks, supplies, fees, and tuition. You can pay this in interest free periodic payments over the time that you are enrolled in school. There are no other charges or fees. It is recommended that you purchase a massage table, which depending upon model & accessories, is about $550. The HHI store is a distributor of high quality Oakworks tables-discounted for students.

8. Are there physical requirements to become a massage therapist?
Massage is a physical job that requires you to be to able to stand for long periods of time. Although you must be physically fit, this is one time where size does not play a factor in your success as a massage therapist. Each graduate of HHI is taught proper body mechanics that help ensure both success and longevity in their career.

9. What are employment or business possibilities for graduates?
Very good. Massage therapy is more popular than ever and offers flexibility and a great income. Many students start their own business or work in a clinic, doctor’s office, chiropractor’s office, hospital, day spa, resort, salon, health club, cruise ship, with a sports team, or in one of the many other alternative health settings.

10. Once I graduate, how will I find a job as a massage therapist?
HHI offers graduates lifetime placement assistance. Although we cannot guarantee placement, once a student has graduated, every effort is made to assist the student in finding satisfying, rewarding work in the field of massage therapy. We keep up-to-date information on hand in the school’s administrative offices regarding businesses interested in hiring or contracting professional massage therapists.

11. Do you offer home study program?
No, we don’t. Massage training is very much “hands-on” and not suitable for correspondence education. Individual attention is a large part of the educational experience at HHI.
